U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio concluded his three-day tour of Gulf countries with a visit to Bahrain, Reuters reported June 25. During the tour, Rubio has sought to reassure Gulf countries that their economic and security interests will be represented in any final U.S.-Iran deal. During the meeting in Bahrain, Omani officials reiterated that they intend for the Strait of Hormuz to reopen without charging any transit fees or tolls.

During the Iran war, Tehran and its proxies repeatedly targeted Gulf countries, including military infrastructure, economic infrastructure and some civilian targets. According to a maritime tracking firm, more than 70 vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on June 24, just over half of prewar maritime traffic levels. Separately, the U.S. Senate reversed its position on a resolution to curb U.S. military operations against Iran on June 24, a day after the Senate narrowly passed a war powers resolution, following a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Republican Senators.
