In a 50-48 vote, the U.S. Senate approved a war powers resolution expressing the body's desire to curb U.S. military operations against Iran or compel U.S. President Donald Trump to seek congressional backing for any resumption of military operations against Iran, AP reported on June 23. The concurrent resolution is nonbinding and does not require a presidential signature.

In a June 23 Truth Social post, Trump said the Senate vote was "poorly timed and meaningless." Trump and International Atomic Energy Agency head Rafael Grossi have both said IAEA inspections would resume in Iran. However, they did not provide a timeframe, and Iran has pushed back against the suggestion, with officials saying an inspection would only take place after a final deal. Separately, in a June 23 joint statement, Iran and Oman established a working group to include regional countries in efforts to reach an agreement on the administration of the Strait of Hormuz. Oman has repeatedly rejected charging tolls to vessels transiting the strait, while Iran has established the Persian Gulf Strait Authority and made various efforts to impose some form of fee on transiting vessels.
