Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev concluded a visit to Brussels, Belgium, with a package of transport, aviation and minerals-related agreements, including $462 million in commercial transport and infrastructure deals, and a landmark Horizontal Aviation Agreement between Kazakhstan and the European Union, The Times of Central Asia reported on June 24. The country's flag carrier, Air Astana, signed a 7.1 billion euro ($8.1 billion) contract to purchase up to 50 Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

The European Union is under pressure to secure non-Russian energy and supply chain alternatives amid protracted disruptions, prompting the bloc to incorporate Kazakhstan's transit infrastructure into its Global Gateway initiative. The European Union is Kazakhstan's largest trade and investment partner, with $45.1 billion in bilateral trade recorded for 2025. However, hydrocarbons and mining products account for over 90% of Kazakh exports to the bloc, reflecting the limited diversification that continues to define the relationship.
