Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, has escalated drone attacks over recent days on the central city of el-Obeid and on the neighboring town of Er Rahad, targeting fuel stations and power substations and forcing the closure of several medical facilities, Sudan Tribune reported on June 23, quoting a U.N. spokesperson.

The U.S. State Department on June 22 expressed its "deep concern" about the RSF's recent massing of troops near el-Obeid and said the paramilitary group "must cease any actions that could endanger civilians." Reports of the RSF massing its forces near el-Obeid first emerged in mid-June.
