Romania's Parliament rejected the government proposed by Prime Minister-designate Adrian Vestea in a confidence vote, Romania Insider reported on June 22. The next day, President Nicusor Dan summoned parliamentary party leaders for consultations to identify a prime ministerial candidate with the support needed to form a government.

The crisis stems from May's ouster of center-right Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, whose PNL had led a fragile pro-European coalition since 2025. After the PSD quit the alliance in April, the party joined the AUR to pass a no-confidence motion, breaking with mainstream parties' historical refusal to partner with the far-right party. Dan, who defeated AUR's George Simion in last year's presidential election, nominated Vestea as his second pick after his first, Eugen Tomac, failed to present a Cabinet within 10 days. He did so apparently without consulting PNL, however, which therefore declined to endorse him despite PSD support.
