Nepal's Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, who is currently on a four-day trip to China, said he discussed boosting cooperation in trade, agriculture, health, tourism, and science and technology research with Chinese officials, Reuters reported June 16. Khanal also confirmed that Nepal and China were actively discussing the possibility of the Chinese tech giant Huawei providing internet services in Nepal.
Media reports on Khanal's meetings in China suggest they were introductory and, at most, served to finalize previously discussed agreements with Nepal. Nepal's current ruling party was elected by a landslide over establishment parties in March elections, propelled by a wave of popular support for political and economic reform.
