Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing during the latter's state visit to China, where the two leaders signed 18 cooperation agreements, Xinhua reported June 16. Xi pledged support for Myanmar's sovereignty, territorial integrity and new civilian government, called for advancing the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and other Belt and Road Initiative projects under secure conditions, and said the two sides should strengthen cooperation on border stability, online scam network enforcement, drug smuggling and earthquake recovery.

Min Aung Hlaing is seeking international validation after Myanmar held controlled elections from December 2025 through January and transitioned from a junta to an ostensibly civilian government. China, one of the few foreign powers to back the election, is using the visit to consolidate its influence over Myanmar's new political arrangement following Min Aung Hlaing's state visit to India earlier in June.
