Leftist Peruvian presidential candidate Roberto Sanchez's Together for Peru party has contested ballots from more than 1,600 polling stations and called on right-wing contender Keiko Fujimori to jointly call for a total vote recount of the June 7 runoff election, Reuters reported on June 14. According to the National Office of Electoral Processes of Peru, the initial count has finished, and Fujimori won just over 1,000 more votes than Sanchez, with 50.004% of the total.

Sanchez's party has also filed an appeal to nullify 1,751 polling stations in Lima and 650 abroad where Fujimori won, but authorities rejected the request for bureaucratic reasons, and these claims cannot be resubmitted since the deadline has expired. Hundreds of Sanchez's supporters marched in Lima on June 12 and 13. Electoral authorities said they expect to declare a winner by July 15.
