Armenia's Central Electoral Commission finalized the June 7 parliamentary election results, giving Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party 64 seats, enough to appoint officials to key state posts without opposition support but not enough to amend the constitution or call a constitutional referendum, Armenpress reported on June 14. The pro-Russian Strong Armenia alliance led by Russian-Armenian oligarch Samvel Karapetyan won 29 seats, the Armenia Alliance led by former President Robert Kocharyan won 12, and no other party entered parliament.
Prosperous Armenia narrowly missed the 4% electoral threshold after a recount and the annulment of three precinct results. Opposition parties issued a joint statement alleging abuse of administrative resources, political repression and interference with campaign operations, though they said they would respond through legal means. Postelection tensions have already increased, with Prosperous Armenia leader Gagik Tsarukyan, Kocharyan and Strong Armenia figure Narek Karapetyan reportedly prevented from leaving the country, while Samvel Karapetyan remains under arrest on charges of calling for a coup.
