Following four days of talks in New Delhi between Bangladeshi and Indian border officials, Border Guard Bangladesh and India's Border Security Force agreed to enhance intelligence sharing and joint patrols, Reuters reported on June 12. Officials held the meeting as part of regular consultations on border security, but it also comes as Bangladeshi authorities have in recent weeks claimed to disrupt several efforts by India to force alleged undocumented migrants back into Bangladesh.

Indian officials and politicians of the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party have for years prioritized addressing grievances linked to undocumented migration, particularly in border states like Assam, which the BJP also governs. Bangladesh takes particular issue with the manner in which India allegedly expels undocumented migrants, which reportedly involves compelling groups of individuals to undertake unauthorized crossings into Bangladesh without formal paperwork or sufficient due process.
