Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said in an address to the nation that Uganda was making progress in tackling the Ebola outbreak and that no new cases had been reported over the past five days, Daily Monitor reported on June 10. This comes despite Ugandan health officials warning on June 9 that the northwestern West Nile subregion could face a partial lockdown if Ebola cases were detected in the area, while authorities from the Democratic Republic of the Congo declared that the Ebola outbreak had spread to the locality of Tchomia, located around 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the Ugandan border.
Uganda has reported 19 cases since the Ebola outbreak was announced in May, 14 of which were imported from Congo. In response to rising cases, Uganda announced the closure of its border with Congo for four weeks on May 27 and has prohibited weekly markets in border areas.
