U.S. President Donald Trump said he would not approve a deal with Canada and Mexico to extend the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, Bloomberg reported on June 10.
Trump's statement came just weeks before the July 1 deadline to extend the USMCA, the same day as the first trilateral meeting to discuss the agreement. So far, the United States has had bilateral meetings with Mexico, while talks with Canada have not progressed. If the three countries fail to agree to an extension by July 1, the USMCA will enter into rolling annual reviews but remain in force until 2036 unless one country withdraws unilaterally. Washington's main demands revolve around labor enforcement, energy policy, digital trade, Chinese transshipment and rules of origin.
