Former Niger Delta militant leader Government "Tompolo" Ekpemupolo called for calm in Nigeria's southern Delta state amid fresh demonstrations by ethnic Ijaw and Urhobo protestors, who are occupying oil flow stations and threatening the production of 400,000 barrels of oil per day to protest the Independent National Electoral Commission's failure to implement a new ward delineation in the Warri area, Premium Times reported on June 10. This comes as Itsekiri community leaders have threatened to shut down separate oil production facilities producing 680,000 barrels per day if the electoral commission does not discard the ward delineation exercise.

In 2022, Nigeria's Supreme Court ordered the electoral commission to conduct a fresh delineation of electoral wards in Warri. The electoral commission presented a report on the matter on May 20 but has yet to implement the delineation.
