Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello ruled out dialogue between the Venezuelan government and the opposition in a response to opposition leader Maria Corina Machado's proposal to negotiate a democratic transition with the interim government, El Pais reported on June 8.
Cabello's statements followed Machado's request for U.S. support for "a political negotiation" that would allow "the restoration of democracy in Venezuela," according to a statement she signed alongside other Venezuelan opposition leaders at a gathering in Panama. Machado has pledged to return to Venezuela after leaving the country in December 2025 to collect her Nobel Peace Prize in Norway. Cabello made the statements while acting President Delcy Rodriguez is on a trip to India and Turkey.
