A car bomb killed the driver of a BMW X3 in Balashikha, a Moscow suburb with a large military-linked residential community, Kommersant reported on June 9. Russian officials and state media have not publicly confirmed the victim's identity, although some Russian Telegram channels have identified the victim as a senior Ministry of Defense official.

The bombing occurred in the same Balashikha area where Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik, deputy head of the Main Operational Directorate of Russia's General Staff, was killed in a car bombing in April 2025. Russian media reported that an improvised explosive device caused the June 9 blast. Later the same day, TASS reported that Russian specialists detonated a suspicious object found under a vehicle in southwestern Moscow during inspection activities, with no casualties reported, adding to immediate security concerns around possible vehicle-borne threats in the capital region.
