The Tigray People's Liberation Front, or TPLF, accused Ethiopia's federal government of conducting a drone strike near the town of Sheraro in northeastern Tigray on the evening of June 5, Addis Standard reported on June 6. While Addis Standard did not confirm that the drone strike was conducted by the federal government, local residents said the strike targeted Tigrayan military vehicles passing through the area.

On May 5, the TPLF reestablished the 2020 Tigray State Council and has since largely sidelined the region's interim administration, which was set up following the end of the 2020-22 Tigray war. Local reports indicate that the TPLF is pressing ahead with the forced recruitment of Tigrayan youths into its armed forces. Ethiopia is facing severe fuel shortages due to disruptions to maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
