Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on June 1 appointed a government led by newly designated Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo that excludes formal representation from the ruling Patriots of Senegal party, or PASTEF, Jeune Afrique reported on June 2. The reshuffle followed the dismissal of ex-Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and the dissolution of the previous Cabinet on May 23 amid a breakdown in relations with Faye that led Sonko and PASTEF, which he founded, to opt out of the new administration.
Following his dismissal as prime minister, Sonko was reinstated as a member of parliament and subsequently elected speaker of the National Assembly. The reshuffled Cabinet comprises 30 ministers and secretaries of state, with several figures from the previous administration retained in their positions.
