U.S. President Donald Trump and Lebanon's Embassy in Washington announced a partial ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, under which Hezbollah agreed to stop attacking northern Israel in return for a cessation of Israeli attacks on Beirut, Reuters reported on June 1. Meanwhile, clashes between Hezbollah and Israel in southern Lebanon continued on June 2.

Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah escalated in the days preceding the June 1 ceasefire announcement, with Israeli attacks in Lebanon's south and east in addition to expanded ground incursions, while Hezbollah increased its intensity of attacks against northern Israel. Before the announcement, the Israeli military had issued evacuation orders for Lebanon's southern suburbs of Beirut ahead of potential strikes.
