During the second India-Australia Defense Ministers' Dialogue, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles reviewed advancements in bilateral maritime defense cooperation since launching the dialogue in October 2025, The Economic Times reported on June 1. The ministers also moved closer to finalizing a Joint Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap and agreed to advance shared maritime domain awareness efforts using patrol aircraft, explore expanded cooperation in undersea surveillance capabilities and encourage deeper engagement between the Indian and Australian coast guards.

The discussions followed the May 26 Quad ministerial meeting, during which the United States, Japan, India and Australia announced a new Indo-Pacific maritime monitoring initiative aimed at strengthening shipping security. The initiative comes as instability around the Strait of Hormuz continues to disrupt maritime traffic amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
