Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the commander in chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, or SAF, called for an intra-Sudanese political dialogue in his Eid al-Adha address
and vowed to keep fighting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, stating that the Sudanese people would reject the outcomes of "conferences and dialogues of foreign capitals," Radio Dabanga reported on May 28. This comes as the SAF made territorial gains against the RSF in the southeastern Blue Nile state in recent days, stating that it was "approaching the storming" of the strategic town of Kurmuk, located on the Sudan-Ethiopia border.
The RSF and allied forces seized Kurmuk in March after escalating offensive operations against the SAF in Blue Nile state since January. The SAF recently secured the defection of two leading RSF commanders amid more frequent infighting within the latter group.
