Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine will buy 150 Swedish Gripen fighter jets using part of a 90 billion euro ($105 billion) credit line, during his meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Uppsala, Sweden, Interfax-Ukraine reported on May 28. Kristersson said 16 JAS 39 Gripen C or D jets were set to arrive in Ukraine in early 2027 and 22 Gripen E jets by 2030.
Ukraine and Sweden signed a letter of intent on Gripen cooperation in October 2025, and Zelensky's latest visit to Sweden followed the approval of the 90 billion euro credit line. It also comes ahead of the Nordic-Baltic Eight summit in Tallinn, Estonia, on June 9.
