Burkina Faso's Ministry of Territorial Administration suspended the country's largest student union, the General Union of Students of Burkina, for three months on a renewable basis over its "glorification/apology of terrorism," RFI reported on May 28. The suspension followed a union statement criticizing the junta's security record and lack of progress against terrorism despite military equipment deliveries, prompting a judicial investigation in Ouagadougou and the reported detention of several members over alleged offenses linked to the statement.

According to the prosecutor, the alleged acts linked to the student union may constitute offenses under Burkina Faso's penal code and could form part of an "attempt to demoralise the defence and security forces." The prosecutor also stressed that "publicly condoning acts of terrorism" is punishable by one to 10 years' imprisonment.
