The Taiwan People's Party on May 27 posted a notice on its website stating that TPP head Huang Kuo-chang had sent a letter to U.S. members of Congress calling for the U.S. Six Assurances to be codified into law, adding that "The U.S. commitment to Taiwan should be enduring and principled — not an option to be bargained away through diplomatic horse-trading." The notice ended by proposing that Taiwan's premier lead the Cabinet in briefing the legislature on U.S.-Taiwan relations and answering related questions from lawmakers.
After his May 14-15 visit to Beijing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where Trump discussed arms sales to Taiwan, he told Fox News that Taiwan arms sales were a "very good negotiating chip" amid trade talks with China.
