The United States' Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on May 21 sanctioned nine Hezbollah-aligned individuals in Lebanon (including sitting Hezbollah members of parliament), Lebanese military and security officials, and Iran's designated ambassador to Lebanon, accusing them of helping Hezbollah preserve influence inside Lebanese state institutions and obstructing efforts to disarm the group, Reuters reported the same day.
The United States hosted the first round of direct Lebanon-Israel talks on April 14. A second round was held on April 23 to discuss extending the Israel-Hezbollah truce and setting up future negotiations. The latest round was held on May 14-15, where the two sides agreed to a 45-day extension of the ceasefire. Additional meetings are planned for late May and June.
