A court in Kazakhstan has recognized and allowed enforcement of an arbitration award in favor of Ukrainian state energy firm Naftogaz against Russia's Gazprom, Reuters reported May 21. The order requires Gazprom to pay Naftogaz more than $1.4 billion in principal, interest and costs, while giving Gazprom 14 days from service to apply to set aside the order.

In June 2025, the International Chamber of Commerce’s International Court of Arbitration (ICC Court) ruled that Gazprom was liable for non-payment under its 2019 gas transit agreement with Naftogaz, and ordered Gazprom to pay the debt, interest and arbitration costs.
