Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a declaration on eternal friendship and expanded strategic partnership during Erdogan's state visit to Kazakhstan, Qazinform reported on May 14. The two sides also signed 14 agreements and memorandums covering investment protection, finance, education, healthcare, media, and the production and servicing of Turkish Anka drones, and Kazakhstan's state-owned KazMunayGas and the Turkish Petroleum Corp. signed two agreements on oil field services and the joint implementation of oil and gas projects.

Erdogan's visit came one day before the informal Organization of Turkic States summit in Turkestan, which Kazakhstan is hosting under the theme "Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development." The visit also came just days after Tokayev attended Russian President Vladimir Putin's May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow and ahead of the May 28-29 Eurasian Economic Union summit in Astana, where Putin is expected to make a state visit to Kazakhstan.
