The party finished third in Wales, made no headway in Scotland and lost over 1,500 English councilors, ceding long-held seats including Sunderland and Barnsley to Reform UK and previously safe London councils such as Lambeth and Hackney to the Greens. Labour's standing has eroded sharply since taking office in July 2024 amid a stagnant economy, tight fiscal room, repeated policy U-turns and recent scandals.
