The Philippine House of Representatives voted 257-25, with nine abstentions, to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte for a second time over alleged fund misuse, unexplained wealth and threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., The New York Times reported on May 11. The same day, senators installed Duterte ally Alan Peter Cayetano as Senate president, after which the chamber went into lockdown and shielded former police chief Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, a Duterte ally wanted by the International Criminal Court, from National Bureau of Investigation agents who had presumably arrived to arrest him.

The developments reflect widening pressure on the Duterte camp, with Marcos-aligned lawmakers trying to weaken Sara Duterte's 2028 presidential prospects while the ICC case against her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, raises legal exposure for Duterte allies.
