Trump also expressed hope that the ceasefire would mark "the beginning of the end" of the war and said talks to end the conflict were continuing.

Russia has scaled down its Victory Day parade, including by limiting the military display on Red Square, amid security concerns and fears of Ukrainian long-range strikes against Moscow. Earlier on May 8, the Kremlin released a list of foreign leaders confirmed to attend the commemorations, including Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
