U.S. President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine agreed to a three-day ceasefire on May 9-11 and a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner swap, according to his May 8 Truth Social post. Trump also expressed hope that the ceasefire would mark "the beginning of the end" of the war and said talks to end the conflict were continuing.
