Turkey is looking to test its Yildirimhan intercontinental ballistic missile, which has a range of 6,000 kilometers (3,728 miles), and its medium-range ballistic missile Tayfun-4, which has a range of over 2,000 kilometers, from its spaceport in Somalia, potentially as early as this year, Bloomberg reported on May 6, quoting people familiar with the matter. Sources said Turkey would begin using its Somalia spaceport this autumn.
Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir said in December 2025 that Turkey had begun constructing a spaceport in Somalia after completing feasibility studies for the project. Somalia is a comparatively better location than Turkey for space launches, given its proximity to the equator. According to Bloomberg, the Yildirimhan would be able to carry a payload of up to 3,000 kilograms and be liquid-fueled.
