U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to be briefed on April 30 on U.S. Central Command's military plans against Iran, including "short and powerful strikes," Axios reported the same day. Other options include a military operation to seize control of the Strait of Hormuz — potentially including a ground component, such as against some of the smaller islands in the strait — or a complicated military operation to seize Iran's buried enriched uranium.
CENTCOM has also requested the Army's Dark Eagle hypersonic missile — said to have a range of around 1,725 miles (2,776 kilometers) — to be deployed to the Middle East, even though the United States' hypersonic missile development is behind that of Russia and China and has not yet been declared fully operational. A written statement attributed to Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said Iran would keep its "nuclear and missile capabilities" despite U.S. pressure for Iran to make nuclear concessions. Brent oil prices briefly exceeded $126 per barrel on April 30, though they have since decreased.
