Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russian companies were ready to work in the Republic of the Congo and highlighted cooperation in geological exploration, logistics, energy and agriculture during talks in Moscow with the country's president, Denis Sassou-Nguesso, Izvestia reported April 29. He also invited Sassou-Nguesso to attend the next Russia-Africa summit in Moscow this autumn.
China remains the Republic of Congo's main external economic partner and accounted for 32% of the country's exports in 2024, while also financing and building several large infrastructure projects. The Republic of Congo's economic outlook is also tied to hydrocarbons expansion, including recent offshore investment activity by TotalEnergies, which announced a significant discovery at the Moho field in April after already committing around $500 million in 2025 to increase production and continue exploration.
