Russian President Vladimir Putin met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in St. Petersburg, saying Russia would act in the interests of Iran and other regional states to bring peace to the Middle East as soon as possible, RIA Novosti reported on April 27. The Russian side included Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov and military intelligence chief Adm. Igor Kostyukov, suggesting the talks extended beyond routine diplomacy.
Russia's most meaningful wartime support to Iran has reportedly centered on asymmetric assistance such as satellite imagery, possible signals intelligence, battle damage assessment and technical feedback from Russia's use of Iranian-origin Shahed drones in Ukraine. Moscow also reportedly offered to mediate and remove Iranian uranium as part of a possible diplomatic arrangement, but the United States rejected that option.
