Former Israeli Prime Ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid announced a joint run for power later this year, a rerun of their short-lived government in 2021-22 that unseated then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, AP reported on April 26. Their alliance, "Together, Led by Bennett," will continue to negotiate for further coalition partners as they seek the electoral math needed to oust Netanyahu again.
Polls have generally favored an opposition government, but by slim margins, with the notable exception of Channel 14, whose polls have favored Netanyahu's coalition. Some of the outlook will depend on a combination of turnout and the actions of certain key figures, like former military chief Gadi Eisenkot, who is seen as key to turning out conservative, national-security-oriented voters who might defect from their traditional support for Netanyahu's Likud party. Eisenkot has not yet said whether he will run this year.
