Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will visit Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 24 to prepare for another round of talks with the United States, in addition to visits to Oman and Russia, Iran's state-run outlet IRNA media reported the same day.
The USS George H.W. Bush's arrival in the Middle East puts three carriers in the region for the first time since the 2003 Iraq war, though the USS Gerald R. Ford, still damaged by an accidental fire, is expected to withdraw soon. Ceasefire violations have continued, including an Iraqi militia-linked drone attack in Kuwait, Israeli-Hezbollah skirmishes in Lebanon, the seizure of ships in the Strait of Hormuz and Iran reportedly laying yet more mines in the strait. CNN also reported that the U.S. military is preparing new options against Iran, from escalating against targets to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to fresh assassinations of Iranian leaders.
