The Tigray People's Liberation Front, or TPLF, said it will reestablish Tigray's executive and legislative institutions in an apparent attempt to restore elements of the region's pre-2020 war governance structure, Addis Standard reported on April 20. The group justified the announcement, made on Facebook, as a response to what it describes as the federal government's failure to fully implement the 2022 Pretoria peace agreement, which ended the 2020-22 Tigray war.
The TPLF argues that the interim administration in Tigray should be managed through bilateral consultations between the TPLF and the federal government, and that its key grievances stem from what it sees as unilateral restructuring and extension of the interim administration without meaningful consultation, undermining the Pretoria framework for joint political transition.
