China's technology conglomerate Tencent acquired a 3.2% stake in Kazakhstan's financial technology company Kaspi.kz for about $518 million through the purchase of American depositary receipts, Bloomberg reported on April 20.
Kaspi.kz operates Kazakhstan's most widely used financial super app and is central to the country's retail financial system. Tencent, which operates China's WeChat super app, is a global leader in integrated digital platforms. The investment follows Tencent's earlier move into Uzbekistan's financial technology sector and aligns with broader Belt and Road Initiative trends toward increased Chinese investment in technology and digital sectors.
