The chief administrator of Ethiopia's northern Tigray region, Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede, said he would not step down after Ethiopia's federal government extended his term for one year, Addis Standard reported on April 15. Tadesse acknowledged his difference in view with the Tigray People's Liberation Front, or TPLF, which rejected his term extension, but stressed that he had insisted in talks last week with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed that Tigray's territorial integrity was "non-negotiable."
On April 8, the federal government extended Tadesse's term by one year. The TPLF rejected the move, saying it was tantamount to a violation of the 2022 Pretoria Agreement, which ended the Tigray war.
