Nigerien Defense Minister Gen. Salifou Modi and his Turkish counterpart, Yasar Guler, signed an agreement whereby Turkey will deploy an unspecified number of military instructors to Niger to train Nigerien security forces, Jeune Afrique reported on April 8. According to the agreement, Turkish military personnel will not directly participate in combat operations against jihadist groups.

Reports from 2024 indicate that Turkey deployed around 1,000 private military contractors from Turkish defense company SADAT to Niger to secure Turkish commercial interests in the country.
