Ethiopia's federal government extended the term of the Tigray region's interim regional administration by one year, The Reporter reported on April 8. This came a day after Tigray leader Gen. Tadesse Werede met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia's federal government pressed ahead with a large military buildup near Tigray in February, which sparked concerns about a new large-scale conflict with the TPLF. Tigray's regional administration was established after the 2020-22 Tigray war. Tadesse was appointed as the region's chief administrator in April 2025 after his predecessor was ousted by the TPLF, and his term was due to expire on April 8.
