Iran reportedly rejected Pakistan's two-phase ceasefire framework, which would have begun with an immediate 45-day ceasefire, reopened the Strait of Hormuz and provided a two to three week timeframe to finalize a broader agreement to permanently end the war, Reuters reported on April 6. A day earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the U.S. and Israeli militaries would escalate strikes on Iran, including against critical and civilian infrastructure, if Tehran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by the evening of April 7.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has said Israel will "hunt [Iranian leaders] down one by one" after Israel killed the chief of intelligence of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on April 6. Israel later killed the leader of the IRGC Quds Force's undercover unit and targeted an Iranian South Pars petrochemical complex. Meanwhile, U.S. special forces rescued the second pilot of the F-15 fighter jet that Iran shot down on April 3, the first pilot having already been rescued the day of the incident.
