Two liquefied natural gas carriers, the Al Daayen and Rasheeda, aborted an attempt to transit the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg reported on April 6. They would have been the first LNG carriers laden with Qatari gas to transit the strait since the Iran war broke out on Feb. 28.

Iran has repeatedly struck Gulf energy infrastructure as part of retaliatory attacks against U.S. interests and allies in the region. On March 18, QatarEnergy said the Ras Laffan Industrial City, which is the primary hub for Qatar's LNG exports and liquefaction trains, suffered "extensive damage" in Iranian missile strikes. QatarEnergy subsequently declared force majeure on long‑term LNG supply contracts affecting deliveries to buyers in Italy, Belgium, South Korea and China.
