The Mozambican government confirmed that it would continue working with the International Monetary Fund to secure a new support program, Bloomberg reported on April 2. This comes after Mozambique's early repayment of $700 million in debt to the IMF sparked speculation that the country may no longer be interested in seeking a program with the fund.
Mozambique secured an IMF support program in 2022, but it was suspended in May 2025. The country's debt-to-GDP ratio stood at around 100% prior to the $700 million repayment to the IMF.
