The ruling Mongolian People's Party selected party head and chairman of the legislature since November, Uchral Nyam-Osoryn, to be Mongolia's next prime minister, AP reported on March 29. His predecessor, Zandanshatar Gombojav, resigned on March 27 amid corruption allegations about his justice minister and a boycott of parliamentary proceedings by the opposition Democratic Party.

Zandanshatar's resignation was the second for a Mongolian premier in a year, after his predecessor, Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene, resigned in June 2025 after losing a confidence vote amid a scandal stemming from his son flaunting his father's wealth. Oyun-Erdene's predecessor, Khurelsukh Ukhnaagiin, resigned in June 2021 amid public protests related to the government's handling of COVID-19.
