World Trade Organization negotiators failed to extend their nearly 30-year-old ban on digital trade tariffs at the body's 14th ministerial conference in Cameroon, Bloomberg reported on March 30. The moratorium on those tariffs is set to expire at the end of March without an extension.
In WTO negotiations, the United States pushed for a 10-year extension of the moratorium. The moratorium had been extended every two years since its introduction in 1998, though it was originally intended to be temporary.
