Indonesia rejected a $1 billion fee to secure a permanent seat on the U.S.-led Board of Peace while reiterating its willingness to contribute troops to a peacekeeping mission in Gaza, AFP reported on March 23. President Prabowo Subianto also said Indonesia could withdraw from the trade deal it signed in February with the United States if the agreement's conditions or execution undermine national interests, following Malaysia's declaration that its deal with Washington was "null and void" on March 18.

The announcement comes as Board of Peace discussions remain on hold due to the Iran war, which has disrupted planning and delayed partner commitments. At the same time, Jakarta faces domestic political sensitivities with respect to perceptions of aligning with U.S.- and Israel-led initiatives, particularly amid the Iran war.
