Thailand's House of Representatives voted to confirm incumbent Anutin Charnvirakul of the center-right Bhumjaithai Party as prime minister, with over 290 of around 500 lawmakers backing his candidacy following the Feb. 8 general election, the Bangkok Post reported on March 19.

Anutin called early elections in December 2025 to capitalize on political momentum driven by nationalist sentiment in light of border tensions with Cambodia and to preempt potential coalition fragmentation. His Bhumjaithai Party emerged as the largest bloc after winning 193 seats and formed a coalition with 15 other parties, securing a clear majority despite ongoing legal scrutiny over alleged ballot irregularities.
