Police in Wuhan arrested seven people and gave administrative penalties to four companies amid a crackdown on trafficking in nationally controlled fentanyl precursors, China's official outlet Xinhua reported on March 19. Xinhua added that these arrests were facilitated by a lead provided by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
In their October 2025 trade deal, the United States lowered tariffs on China related to its role in the fentanyl crisis from 20% to 10% on the condition that China helps crack down on precursors. In recent weeks, Trump has complained that China has not held up its end of the deal.
