U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer announced on March 11 the initiation of sixteen Section 301 investigations over structural excess capacity and production in manufacturing sectors. The investigations cover China, the European Union, Singapore, Switzerland, Norway, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Japan and India.

Greer also said he could announce a probe into forced labor across 60 countries. U.S. officials have said these investigations will result in new U.S. tariffs to replace the International Emergency Economic Powers Act tariffs struck down in February, and that they hope to conclude the investigations before the July Section 122 tariff expiration date.
