Iran threatened to expand its target set to include U.S. and Israeli-linked banks and financial institutions throughout the Middle East after U.S. and Israeli strikes attacked a Tehran branch of Bank Sepah, which has links to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and also threatened to target U.S. technology companies, such as Amazon, Microsoft and Palantir, in the region, Reuters reported on March 11. The threats came as Iran has taken additional steps to disrupt commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz by laying a few dozen mines and as likely Iranian projectiles targeted three cargo vessels in the surrounding waters.
Even though the United States has degraded Iran's naval assets, estimates suggest that Iran still has around 80%-90% of its small boats and mine layers. Meanwhile, Israel has continued to attack Iran and Lebanon's Hezbollah. Additionally, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, warned of a kidnapping risk to U.S. citizens and urged their evacuation.
